Question:
I just called the suicide prevention hotline...and they sound more suicidal than ME! Who's on the other end?
It's all good.

That was ridiculous. She answered "hotline..." *silence*

Me "Um, Hello. I just had a question..."
Her "..."
...
"Yes?"
Me "Um, yeah, so, when I call the hotline, is my number recorded or anything like that?
Her "..." "...eeerrrrrrNo, it's strictly confidential."
Me "Hm. Okay...
...
...
...
...Well...
...I was just wondering. Have a great night."
Her (in uncertain relief) "Um, okay, you too."

Hahahahahaha...The ONLY reason I'm not going to kill myself now is because I don't want THAT to be my last conversation with a human being. Bwahahahahahaha...

Do they just let ANYBODY man those phones?

well, i'm fairly certain she was an unpaid volunteer to begin with. different volunteers have different styles that click with different sorts of callers. it often takes people a while to figure out how to word things and she was probably giving you time to do so. not sure exactly what you were expecting. the people who answer phones are not therapists, they're just regular people who devote their free time to be there for people in crisis who want to talk.

This is really childish and you are certainly not suicidal. "Hahahahahaha...The ONLY reason I'm not going to kill myself now is because I don't want THAT to be my last conversation with a human being. Bwahahahahahaha." Give me a break. I certainly hope to God that your "curiosity" in calling the suicide hotline didn't cause someone else who really needed help to get a busy signal.

I don't know what the education requirements are. Maybe she was still in training. I know two mental health therapists that are two of the craziest people I've ever met. They obviously went into therapy to get help for themselves. Maybe it's the same for this suicide hot-line person.

Hey, get help if you need it. Call again, and get someone more experienced, or call another suicide hot-line. The National Suicide Prevention Lifeline in the U.S is 1-800-273-TALK (8255). You can also talk to your doctor, or a social worker about how to get help.

HAHA! I always guessed they had people that tried to kill themselves but couldn't or got saved while they were trying to kill themselves on the other end or the phone. OMG your funny!
