There is nothing "religious" about this natural phenomenon. At some point in time, there is what is known in Eastern mysticism as a "dissolution", in which all Creation up to Trikuti, or the Causal realm, is withdrawn for a period of time equal to that time it was in existence. After the withdrawal time, the Astral realm and physical realm recreates.



At longer intervals of time, there is a "grand dissolution" where all of Creation is withdrawn up to the bottom of the pure Spiritual realm. This darkness, so to speak, lasts for a period of time equal to that which comprised the last Creation . All the Souls that were in Creation, pick up where they left off, more or less.
