Nature and nurture is still a huge debate in psychology. Just do any literature search and you will find a ton of articles. Also, look into the diathesis stress model. In a nutshell, the diathesis stress model hypothesizes that some people are genetically (nature) predisposed for certain illnesses, but may be asymptomatic for a long time. It just takes a stressful event (nurture) to activate that gene, so to speak, and symptoms start.

Nature Vs narture is no longer an issue. Ask any Psychologist and they will tell you that it is not. Nature and nurture works together. A person born with 'genius' genes will not go very far if raised in a poor neighborhood, born to parents who could care less about education. If there is never an opportunity to nurture the 'genius' genes, how can this person be a genius? On the other hand, a mentally challenged person only has a certain capability to learn, no matter how many books, how many tutors and professionals you hire.

Nature vs nurture is always an issue. When one has 44 chromosomes instead of 46, it's written somewhere he/she will be a killer. Fortunately, it's a rare case.

The latest research is that the two are so intertwined it is impossible to separate them in any way to even do any research. I think the question is a false polarity. It is not one or the other. it is both. They cannot operate without each other.
