In "The Dark Knight" the Joker says, "Do I really look like a man with a plan to you? I'm a dog chasing cars. I wouldn't know what to do with one if I caught it."

In the book "The 48 Laws of Power" the 48th law is Assume Formlessness.

It's description is:
By taking shape, by having a visible plan, you open yourself to attack. Instead of taking a form for your enemy to grasp, keep yourself adaptable and on the move. Accept the fact that nothing is certain and no law is fixed. The best way to protect yourself is to be as fluid and formless as water; never bet on stability or lasting order. Everything changes.

Okay, so, my interpretation of what the Joker said is this...he is either so intelligent that he doesn't need a plan and can make split second decisions on the spot, OR he was lying and did have a plan but knew that he might have to throw out that plan during what was about to happen and act differently.

Do not leave comments saying the Joker is a psychopath and insane because I am not buying that.

i think what he said was true, he doesnt have a plan. he just knows batman wont kill him so he will be alive with no consequences with the worst being temporary capture. he got his face messed up so he is just raging and having fun while doing it.

The Joker is a sociopath that's completely in control of everything. He always had a plan but it was off the cuff of his sleeve and fit the situation. All he needed was some t.n.t., a knife, and some henchmen to complete whatever he came up with. But he was extremely intelligent, that's how he was always ahead of everyone. He was the best villain ever created and Heath Ledger brought him to glory as the best.
