They own almost nothing yet they're so happy. Yet people in first world countries own so many things yet they're unhappy. Why are they unhappy?

I think a good number of people in third world countries are unhappy, especially those that suffer from hunger and severe poverty. But you're right, a good number of people in the first world are unhappy. Maybe because possessions and comfort have little to do with happiness?

that is the big question. Probably because happiness does not come from owning things. I don't really know the right answer and there is at least a little research into this area, but those who keep trying to possess things to become happier doesn't make it do. That doesn't mean that someone who has a lot of things is not happy only that if you are not happy, simply buying more toys and things is not going to make you happier.

My hypothesis is that people in third world countries tend to be poor which results in less material and less complicated problem. While on the other hand people in first world country tend to lean more on average to high financial status which would result in greediness.Just my 2cents:D

The key here is contentment. If you look at the trend, those who "own so many things" where not content in the first place, so they kept buying and buying and now have (or will have) so many things to worry about. Those with nothing may or may not realize the little that they have, yet are very happy and content with it because they have very little to worry about.

Because of the respect between each other and the brotherhood, they are not very picky about life just grateful for what they have.
