Question:
How do I get more people to answer my questions?
2006-03-22 12:40:50 UTC
I feel I have asked some pretty good questions, but I get very few answers. Then I see a question like "what is your favorite day of the week", and it has 87 answers.
Thoughts? suggestions? Do you think it has anything to do with the category?

I've put the same questions in two different categories and only received answers to one of them....so, yes, the category you choose matters.

The time of day you choose also matters. More people are online between 7-10pm than are online between 1-4pm.

The way you word your question is important. Better questions get better responses. I'll take a look at some of your questions and see if I can help.

In addition, there are many teenagers on here trying to rack up imaginary points. They may not be able to answer your intelligent question, but they certainly can find an answer for, "What is your favorite food?" :)

I think I understand where you are coming from. Now this is interesting because I am answering your question now, thus solving your dilemma if you can figure out psychologically why I chose this question to answer. Was it because it was crafted well with proper syntax and grammar? No. Is it because I am an original person who wanted to lead the way answering this question? Possibly. Can your question really be answered in a qualified way? I mean, how can any of us here at answers really know why on this or that day we are presented with this or that question or answer?

If the question offers some imagination it may be too challenging. Maybe dumb the question down. There are a lot of youngsters here, too, ya know?

Otherwise, just have patience and sometimes a smart person who is introspect will come pass like the postman and give you what you need.

The question needs to be universal enough to appeal to a wide audience. I look for intelligent, thoughtful, sincere questions - the ones where people need an answer and aren't just asking some silly, nonsensical question. Try to put it in the appropriate category, I guess, although I don't pay much attention to categories. I just go down the questions until I see one that strikes an interest. Ask something you really want to know the answer to.

I don't get a lot of answers to my questions, but they are usually well thought out answers. That's what matters to me, not the number of replies.

a lot of things to be taken into consideration:

-Most people are either too stupid to answer or too lazy and don't wanna bother using their heads, so they can can only handle questions on the same level as they are!

-Some people here just want to get as much points as they can, which requires answering as much questions as they possibly can, and simple questions don't take much time, or require too much thought!

-Categories play a big role here! DO you put your questions in the right ones?! and another thing, sometimes if you place your question under the right category it might not be one that many people would be interested in checking out (some categories are just more appealing that others, thats just the way it is!!)

And i feel like i haven't been much help in answering you! But atleast i participated and you have one more answer to this question, right?! ;)

I dont really post up questions cause i have the same problem too but i noticed that it has to do with the importance of the question's meaning. For instance, important and serious questions arent really answered all that often but fun and silly ones that you can get kick out of and make an easy 2 points get answered like crazy. People dont want to get on here and be serious!

I don't know because I never select a category when answering a question. Maybe you've just had bad luck. This is the first time I've seen a question by you posted, anyway, at least I've answered a question for you now.

It has alot to do with what you ask. What is your favorite day of the week is an easy question because you will not be wrong its an opinion. But some good questions get less answers cause they dont know how to answer them, or some one already gave a good answer and agree with what some one said already.

maybe it has nothing to do with your q, maybe it has to do with the state of mind of those who answer. if they are bored, they'll avoid your q, if they are interested, they will take time and answer it. and further more, the simpler the q is, the more answers it gets. if you ask something like "what does the theory of relativity means?" be sure you won't get any answers. but if you ask something like "what do you think about the weather tonight?" be sure you'll get tons of answers. but don't be sad. the toughther the q is, the quality of the answers increase. this way you are sure you will get the answer you want, not stupid ones like "ha ha ha, i got 2 points from you for a stupid q". hope you understodd.

i think it is because if you ask a deep question, or one that requires a certain amount of research or thought, people will skip over it, because most are searching for questions that are easy to answer and don't take a lot of time to answer...as for the category, i think health and scientific questions might fair as well as general questions...

It has something to do with excitement. People who have interest in Psychology will answer questions in Psychology and people with interest of Automobile will answer more in automobile category. It is also important to note how we organize the questions and how famous the subject is.

Better you aim for quality rather than quantity.

5 good answers is preferable to 50 insane juvenile responses.

I've asked sensible intellectual questions to no response and - for experiment - asked lcd (lowest common demoninator) childish questions to greater response.

Just like life really...

ask questions which can be answered in a timely fashion...people like to scrape up points....then be sure to also pick a best answer to reward people for answering your questions....that will make them want to come back & answer your questions....probably the reason so many of the stupid questions get answered so prolifically is that they are super easy to get 2 points for quickly & then they can just go on to their next 2 points....good luck in the future..I will try to look for you & answer when I see you in here....ps. also from tx :)

Try writing things out in crayon and using small words.

No, try posting mutiple places. (I'm grappling with this myself at the moment, so I'll be watching this question for advice.)

Stupid people are intimidated by smart questions.

Ask something stupid and the opinions flow.
