What is it called when you think you hear a word but they actually said something completely different?

Like if the tv was on low volume and it sounded like they said something but you rewind it and they actually said something completely different.

Most people have this happen,they may have a slight hearing issue

or heard it wrong.It's fairly common.

You simply misheard it. I was doing a cooking course once. The employee working there who accepts deliveries asked me how I was going with the course. I said I didn't have the aptitude for it. Because he most likely had never heard of that word before, he assumed I said "attitude" so then he went around telling others I said I didn't have the attitude for it.
