Question:
HELP! I suck at interviews...very socially awkward?
2008-02-11 22:55:12 UTC
I'm quiet and shy...I tend to be too serious and nervous during job interviews...I need to work on my people skills and self-esteem blah blah blah, but I don't know how to start....I'm 18 and I can't even socialize. They say to get jobs you should sound "intelligent" and "competent", but yet I see only the most ditzy girls getting jobs all over the place.

Should I just act ditzy and talkative to pass a damn interview? How do you do it?

I must have been to more interviews in my life that I've been to parties. Right. All you have to do BEFORE the interview is calm down. Just look at yourself in the mirror and say "I'm calm". This is stage 1, the most important stage of all, everything else just depends on you being very calm about the whole thing. Then once you get there and they start asking you questions just act as if you're not at an interview but just having a pleasant chat with somebody. Be pleasant but not a "happy bunny". Be outspoken but serious when asked a serious question. Make sure you give a smile but not a giggle. I'm sure you're intelligent and competent without putting it on so just act yourself. When answering, look them straight in the eye and when given an opinion question, speak your honest mind. Your qualifications they can already see on your CV or they can find out on the way after they employ you. You must give the impression of an individual who knows where she stands, knows what she's worth and will be very convincing as to the fact that she's the exact right person they're looking for for that specific position.

I would suggest just try being you with a bit of an enhanced self confidence.

The best of luck to you.

Practice, Think about the possible questions the interview might ask. Find extra info about the job/ position you are applying for, it will make you more confident and have control. Don't be too talkative, don't interupt the interview but listen and answer questions at the right times. Don't be overly familar. Don't ramble, get to the point fast. A good tip is to ask alot of questions, this will let the employer know that you are interested int he job. Eye contact is also important usually when you avoid it.... it usualy means that you are nervous or lying. Smile and im sure that everything will be fine :D

good luck

The only way to become socially intelligent is to actually practice being social with every single person you have the opportunity to speak with: eg the bus driver, the waiter, the cashier, your family, teachers, etc etc. It will help. Join a gym or get involved with a group of similar interest to yours. For interviews the same thing. Just practice answering questions with someone before the interview. Google some career sites for more interview tips. Lastly dont act dittzy unless you are applying for a job at Hooters. Good luck.

Before going to interview first be prepared t by dressing well, learning how to describe your strenghs, and your success. Practice before before the interview by asking yourself question and answering. Don't be nervous because is just job interview, if you fail one learn from it and next time try to improve. Don't talk to much it my ruin your interview, just answer the question to best your can. Google job interviews question that might give you an idea of you will be asked. Know what is the requirement of job you are being interviews for you, that also may help you answer their question perfectly. Have good night sleep. Make a good resume. Hope that helps..
