I’ve read about conversion disorder where physical symptoms (such as blindness) manifest themselves with no underlying physiological problems due to psychological stress. It seems like conversion disorder is related to the fact that people have no conscious awareness that their physical problems are actually psychological and the problems diminish as they discover they are not physiologically-based. So would it be possible to develop a conversion disorder problem if you knew what the condition was & that your problem is psychological?

In Freudian theory, "hysteria" (now called "conversion disorder" or "somotization disorder") was, as you said, beleived to be caused by subconscious conflict and, yes, when this became conscious then the symptoms were meant to disapear. (This was called catharsis). This however, has largely been shown to be a nonsense - there are many people who consciously know that their syptoms are psychosomatic and yet continue to have them. The clearest example is people who get a racing pulse or a feeling they are going to vomit because of anxiety. The majority of people with psychological disorders like depression and anxiety experience some physical symptoms and KNOW that they have a mental health problem, but alas, this does not make the condition disappear, otherwise the waiting rooms would be empty. Freudian theory (by whatever name) is now almost totally rejected within psychology as unscientific, and the idea that people have two separate minds - one conscious and one unconscious, is also flawed.

That's a good question. I say "yes" because they could get a conversion disorder from something...else. Right?

I made a site if anyone's interested. It's on Beh. Medicine/Psych. One of the pages is on Conversion Disorders: http://adamsnursingnotespsychbehaviormed.wordpress.com/conversion-disorder/
