I always get distracted by own emotions. I need to control my mind so that I am able to think rationally, prioritise things in my life and channelize my mind to achieve those activities. What are different ways of mind control?

Well, we have to start with that 'self-awareness'......

It is usually the emotions that blocks the logical reasoning capability of the mind.

The desires, expectations, and its 'mis-match' with the situations outside, due to adverse unexpected 'results' , etc causes that 'uncontrollable' outburst of emotions.

So try to look at those desires as our aims & goals, while recognising at the same time that there are many factors outside our scope, beyond our control that could also affect the results. This would deepen the acceptance, without diluting the efforts to achieve the goal/desire. Thus, the emotions are well under check. Logic would function well and our skills & performance would improve. Rational & prioritizing would happen at an enhanced level too. Most importantly, the accumulation of negative emotions would decrease and onlookers would 'find' that we have better control over the mind.

Self-control is often found in the practice of meditation. While I am not a Buddist, a year of Zen Buddhist studies and practice provided an opportunity to recognize the value of self-evaluation and focused attention.

Visualization and positive affirmations are more Westernized forms of meditation.

One of the best ways i have found is to rise above the situation. Just come up above and look at the situation like you look at a chess board. It is very important to deal with situations without a bias for any particular object.

While you look at the situation like this, observe, what are your assets and what are your liabilities...Very Very important.

You should always know what are the things working for you and what are the things that you don't need. Just ignore what you don't need and proceed to use your advantages to their fullest measure...

i think i know what you mean....i had the same problem and guess what i found a solution that helped me....sit in a room with door closed......a window nearby with wind coming......face the window with the wind....close your eyes and visualize every thing that concerned u as an object standing in the air....cut out your supply of your thinking energy towards them....see them falling....and then a clear area with nothing to think about.......things will try to comeback but just feel the wind and imagine sky and clouds.....you flying in them......

remember the trick is that human mind can think of one thing at a time start concentrating at a point or do some homework or something with complete concentration and no other thing enters your mind...... i can not 100% explain it but you need to feel it to learn it....

"channelize?" heh.

think about the consequences to giving in to your emotions. think about who it's going to affect. think about what someone else would do, like someone you trust.

set goals for yourself to achieve - simple, attainable goals for the day. do it when you get up in the morning or before you go to bed that night.
