You know...I never got the deal with obsessive thoughts. They are just scary thoughts
...she says "unwanted thoughts"...but I say you are the one ruminating about them. Therefore you are thinking about them creating them and keeping those thoughts in place.

But honestly...they are just scary thoughts.

Yes, they are scary thoughts, hence the obsessive part of it. Some people with ocd, do not have scary thoughts, it's just a ritual thing with them, to dispell anything, that they are going through. The thing most people don't understand is the brain part of it,. It is a chemical imbalance, it has to deal with serotinin I think, basically the brain does not tell a person to stop doing what it is doing., or what he or she is doing. For example, next time it rains, or anything weather related is going on, try to wish it away, and see how that works. Basically, it won't work. That's just an example of what people with this disorder are up against.

Another dimension to the disorder, if I remember correctly, is that someone suffering from it may feel the need to perform a behavior or ritual of some sort, out of fear that something bad will happen if one doesn't. Once the behavior is performed, the bad thing is forestalled. Example (but not the only one by any means) is the stereotype of the obsessive handwasher.

As I remember it, it's not something one simply "gets a grip on" or "snaps out of." It goes on and on. Generally, professional help is needed; maybe a medication; in the very rare most extreme cases, people have resorted a sort of brain surgery (not lobotomy, but something different).

i have ocd

and for you to say that thoughts are something you can control is a little ignorant

but dont worry, ill explain a bit for you

ocd can be caused by a few things, in my case its a phobia

so i constantly think about my phobia: in class, on the bus, at parties, in my bed at night

i cant help it, wether im thinking about it in a positive or negative way, its very hard to control

it something that takes control of your head

so i suggest you research it a bit, and give your friend a little more sympathy

ocd is not easy

and their not just scary thoughts, they can be disturbing, nasty, creepy. somtimes it gets so bad, and your brain is full of bad images you can get a panic attack!

You sound insensitive and/or uneducated about OCD. It is extremely distressing to have obsessive intrusive thoughts in your mind all day every day. They do not have the ability to control these thoughts because they are caused by abnormal chemical and electrical activity in their brains.

And I say you obviously need more education. Maybe sweetie, since you are already on a computer, you should put it to good use and google Obsessive Compulsive Disorder, and maybe get a little more brain power.
