Question:
Hard decision, can you guys offer some opinions? Go on camping trip with classmates or study for SAT?

So I have the SAT coming up on December 5th and this Friday I have a camping trip to go to. I go to the camping trip on Friday and arrive home at about maybe 5:00 PM Saturday. I usually spend my Saturday mornings taking SAT practice tests and reviewing the answers for them. I took the SAT on October 10th and my SAT score was a 1940 (a huge increase from my first time score of a 1470 and I want to get at least a 2100 now). So I have a tough decision to make

Either I

1. Stay home and get some good sleep on Friday, wake up early in the morning on Saturday as usual and then do the SAT practice tests. Go over the answers after I am done with the practice test. This will of course help prepare me for the SAT which is about 3 weeks away.

OR

2. Go to the camping trip and enjoy the trip with my friends. I am a senior and I will be graduating so this school year is my last year with them. We will be going on another camping trip in April. Also when we go camping it will be cold so I am a little worried about getting sick.

What should I do? (if you cannot tell me that then tell me the negatives and positives about each decision).

GO CAMPING!!!! you can always study on Sunday and one day of studying isn't going to have any big effect on your score. and if you haven't learned how to put on warm clothes by now, i doubt you should be graduating high school.

if you want to do both:

take Great Expectations or some other book and read during the ride there. make flash cards of any math problems that you have trouble with (only 10 or so). practice doing them in your head. no calculator or anything. it will help you to do the SAT faster and catch some of your mistakes later anyway. you can also make cards of sentences written incorrectly with corrections on the back to pracice the grammar section. write a 1 paragraph journal entry every day (just to stay in the writing mood). try to make it as eloquent as possible just to stretch your grammar and vocabulary a little more. voila, you just studied for the SAT.

really, there's no reason to miss out on fun times with your friends for one day of studying. especially since many of them, you will never see again after this year. plus, when they come back with awesome stories, you'll be in on it versus only having the Epic of the Really Painful SAT Book Papercut to talk about :P in fact, if you develop negative associations with the test, subconsciously you won't be able to commit as much. you won't do as well as you could. so take a day off, rest, have fun, and then jmp back on the study wagon refreshed and ready to ace the test.

lastly, get a sweater and a long-sleeved shirt and a coat if you need one. put HotHands in all your pockets. incorporate some form of garlic into your diet (it prevents colds). and go have fun. your energy will keep you warm and entertained.

This may sound hard but stick to the SAT. You are still in the first semester of your senior year, you have more time with your friends in the second semester.

Believe it or not, colleges care about the SAT, one day matters a lot, you need to take that practice test and you need to excel. If you do good on the SAT you can go to a lot of places for college and really enjoy your second semester of high school. Remember, December 5th is really the last chance you have for the SAT if you are applying regular decision and after that, whatever you get is what you get. A 1940 is a GREAT score but a 2100 can really boost your application.

Prepare for that test kid, you don't have much time.

The more practice hours you get the better. Stick to it.

well, you just said you might get sick. nobody likes to give major test or an examination when they're sick.

How about you ask your friends to spend a day out together in the city or elsewhere instead of a whole camping trip?

Also, are your grades and future more important or camping out? If your friends are true friends, you'll still continue to keep contact and seem them after graduation.

However, you might like to take the fact whether or not you're an able student or not. If you can cope with the reduced study time, then a short camping trip may not be a problem, and you can perhaps even download informational podcasts to listen to on the trip.

I recommend you go on the camping trip. Just be sure to do the practice you usually do Sat am, later in the week, in small bits. It's just as important for your mind to have time to file, sort and store information, as it is to keep pumping information in. You'll get a mental traffic jam if you don't take a break now and then.

I agree with bay of plenty.

Go Camping, you're olny young once, and you will never get these years back. You still have 3 weeks to study for the SAT's. You need to have some leisure time mixed with your study time, then party hard when the your SAT's are over!!

Go ahead and go on the trip. Study while you're there if you want. Have some fun. When you come back, get back into studying. No biggie.

Or if you don't want to get sick and don't want to miss one practice test, stay home.

i think you should go camping :) sometimes time away is a necessity! also the SAT is made to sound like a big scary test and whatnot but it really isn't it's just the time crunch that makes it a little stressful but the actual test is fairly easy. if you practice on a regular schedule then missing one wont really hurt. and if it does matter that much to you, make it up on a weekday?

Go camping but bring your SAT papers with you

Whats difference is one day going to make. Instead of coming on here moaning about nothing why not do your studying now instead?

Hmm......prepare for something that will effect you the rest of your life...

Or...

Hang out with your friends....something you can do any day of the week....crap, you could just plan another camping trip in a couple of weeks.

C'mon kid, use your head.

Why are your parents even giving you this decision?
