My "friend" said that I wasn't a open minded person and that i'm very close minded because I told her that I would never date guys who dress like a thug with saggy pants. What exactly makes a person close minded and what exactly makes a person open minded?

Closed minded is the unwillingness to receive new ideas. Being open minded is accepting new ideas.

NOW the tricky part. You, I guess, are willing to receive or acknowledge new ideas.

Example. If said to my son "Baggy clothes? No I refuse to let you look like a bum". Then I am not willing to accept the new idea of these type cloths. If I say to him "wow I have seen the new styles and quite frankly I prefer you do not wear them".

I have accepted that there is a new style of dress. Then because of my values, likes or dislikes I make a decision that I do not like the look. Most of this is based on your nurturing. Which is what was taught to you or you observed outside influences while you were first able to crawl around and discover what you like or dont like.

So I would tell you friend that you are fine that others like the style. I just prefer some one that I am going to be hanging around with, dresses differently

hope that gives you a fighting chance..

To be closed mined means to have set opinions. No matter what someone says, that closed -minded person still and possibly always will believe in what they have told them self or what someone has told them. Lets take Hitler for example, he made many people believe Jews were bad people, he used them as scapegoats.A person who is open-minded accepts what they believe is most possible, and still willing to take in other ideals

well tnhat doesn;t sound close minded, that sounds like your judging a book by it's cover. and when people judge people or things on thier appearance, they are usually right. close minded is when a person refuses to except a fact or an opinon outside thier own belief and refuses to try new things thinking the result will always be the same

Open to new ideas, listening and understanding other peoples perspective, non judgmental. Willing to consider alternative solutions, to try a new approach.

In my experience, people usually seem to think "open-minded" means that you will accept their opinion. If you disagree, you are close-minded.

Not being able to see the person for who they are give them a chance and you might like it
